SIMON SHEIKH & CHRISTINE MILNE LAUNCH PLAN TO DIVERSIFY CANBERRA'S ECONOMY - The “Canberra Jobs Fund”
Today, Simon Sheikh and Christine Milne will launch a plan to protect Canberra from some of the worst impacts of Tony Abbott’s job cuts and diversify the local economy. The Greens will campaign to legislate that a portion of the savings from cutting jobs in Canberra would go into a “Canberra Jobs Fund”.
Independent think tank The Australia Institute (TAI) released a report this morning which examines the impact of Abbott’s extreme job cuts policy. It confirms that even in the “best case scenario” Abbott’s cuts will be worse than the cuts in the mid 1990s that sent Canberra into a recession.
